Thursday Meetings – “Informative speech and journalistic devices”

The conference „Informative speech and journalistic devices” took place within the series of lectures Thursday meetings, organized by the Center For Research in Communication, on 20 January 2011. The lecture was held by DANA POPESCU-JOURDY, associate professor at University Lyon 2, France and member of the ELICO research group. The key-point of the presentation was given by the issue of how to build the event/ the news within the press informative speech. Considering the fact that journalistic speeches distort the picture of reality, are the base in constructing the symbolic image of the world and constitute an area of public debate, it is important to understand their operating mode.

In order to better manage and unravel information, Dr. Dana Popescu-Jourdy presented the characteristics and the role of elements such as the device and its different types used in audio-visual media, the generic and the significance of its components, the set as a representation space and meta-area and the anchor and his functions. The anchor has a central role in establishing a relationship with the viewers, by maintaining the connection through his tone, presentation style, way of organizing information and representing public interests.

The lecture has brought together both professors of the College of Communication and Public Relations and third year undergraduate students who were engaged in debate and raised questions about the discussed issues.
